North Carolina Cooperative Extension is based at North Carolina's two land-grant institutions, NC State University and NC A&T State University, in all 100 counties and with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

The North Carolina Forage and Grassland Council Annual Workshops

The annual NC Forage and Grassland Council will hold their annual workshops January 25 in Greensboro and January 26 in Morganton. The program and registration information is attached. These workshops have proven very educational and worth your time to attend. The same program is presented at each site so you only need to attend one. If you are interested, please contact the Extension Center or the attached registration form.

Natural Resources Leadership Institute (NRLI)

The Natural Resources Leadership Institute (NRLI) is dedicated to educating North Carolinians on issues affecting the sustainable development of North Carolina's natural resources and the quality of our environment. Founded in 1994, NRLI began with the development of its core leadership development program. Nearly 450 leaders have participated in the institute. Since 1996, the work of the institute expanded with the development of its Environmental Decision-Program and its first facilitation, the Bluff Mountain Timber Sale. Presently NRLI continues to work with communities, and local, state, and federal agencies and organizations in order to find collaborative solutions to our environmental issues. MORE

1. Map out monthly forage demands for specific classes of livestock. Each animal unit (1 average cow or horse, 10-15 average sheep/goats) requires 25-30 lbs. of hay equivalent per day. 2. Cull non-essential animals. Don't waste expensive feed on non-productive animals. 3. Test forages for nutrient content, so that ALL livestock receive what they need. 4.
